Pacific City Lakes and Rivers
Town Lake
Town Lake may be a small lake in size, but not small on pristine
beauty. It is located just over the bridge at Woods (at the north end of
PC). It is protected from the sea breeze by a huge dune and surrounded
by foliage like that of a rain forest. It is easy access from the
road being just a few yards away. The Department of Fish and Wildlife
keeps it stocked with several thousand legal size trout from March through
August. They say there are so many fish, they have to stand on the bank
and take turns getting wet. But please, take no more than the legal limit
or more than you can use fresh.
Big Nestucca River
The Big Nestucca is 53 river miles long and flows in a west-southwest
direction to Nestucca Bay. It meanders through most of the coastal
towns to the north and then right through the center of PC. There
are several boat launches in PC: On Brooten Road next to the Nestucca Sporting
Goods at the north end of town, and at the south end of town. There
is a well maintained launch on the west side at Bob Straub Park with a
huge paved parking lot. Famous for it's huge fall Chinook Salmon,
it is also known for it's winter run of Steelhead and Cutthroat Trout.
NOTE: This river also contains wild coho salmon that are listed as a Threatened
Species under the Endangered Species Act. Know your fish well if you decide
to fish this river or any of its tributaries and help conserve this species.
Also please release un-clipped adipose fin native Salmon and Steelhead.
Little Nestucca River
The Little Nestucca flows 18 river miles from it headwaters to the
Nestucca Bay. Although not easily accessed, it is a valuable asset
to the watershed and wildlife. There is a boat launch at the Hwy 101 bridge.
Famous for it's huge fall Chinook Salmon, it is also known for it's winter
run of Steelhead and Cutthroat Trout. NOTE: This river also contains wild
coho salmon that are listed as a Threatened Species under the Endangered
Species Act. Know your fish well if you decide to fish this river or any
of its tributaries and help conserve this species. Also please release
un-clipped adipose fin native Salmon and Steelhead.
The Nestucca Estuary
Part of the Nestucca-Neskowin Watershed, the Nestucca Estuary is
created by the Little Nestucca and the Big Nestucca merging together to
form the Nestucca Bay before draining into the Pacific. It is a huge
area that fluctuates with the tide from fairly deep water to mud flats.
This is the perfect habitat for many species of wildlife some unique to
the area.
The Pacific Ocean
Well... what can I say? Surf fishing is very good all year for lingcod,
surf perch, and rockfish. Then there are dungeness crabs very close
to shore and clams very near the surface. Please be conscience of the environment
and take no more than the legal limit or than you can use.
